Desert Surfing Now in Palm Desert
Have you ever imagined the possibility of a surfing resort in an oasis-like Palm Desert where the nearest ocean is about a two-hour drive, depending on where you are staying in the valley?
Well, now you can because plans are underway to bring to life an adventure getaway DSRT SURF, a resort-style tourist attraction in Palm Desert that would be Southern California’s first artificial surfing destination.
Adding another golden feather to city’s already humming and forever buzzing rich surf culture, DSRT Surf will graciously offer the residents as well as the tourists visiting the Southern California’s oasis to bask in the year-round sunshine and indulge in the family-friendly tourist attractions, art galleries, and vintage shops access to the aqua-blue, foaming waves without having to step foot in the ocean.
Whether you are an art aficionado or a family of five hitting the city to experience the desert’s natural wonders – that can be found in abundance here – up close and personal – soon you’ll be able to add another place to your list of places to visit in Palm Desert next time you’ll plan to rejuvenate and relax amongst the luscious green and soiled brown landscape of the city. Wave pools with more ocean-like waves are now developing, thanks to the recent and more advanced technology and machines that made man-made waves a reality.
So far, in California, the only other major artificial surfing destination that became popular among tourists and residents is Kelly Slaters’ Surf Ranch, opened in 2018, in the small town of Lemoore. Exacting the same standards, DSRT Surf aims to blend the feel of the beach and the desert, structuring a resort-destination getaway that recently got its plan approval by city’s planning commission on 15th October evening, set to be opened in Desert Willow Golf Resort, after fighting the numerous allegations and conflicts posed by the homeowners who live near the proposed project location.
DSRT Surf is an 18-acre development project that would feature a surf lagoon and wave machine with gourmet restaurants, hotels, beach area, amphitheater, sports center, a pier, pools, cabanas, and associated amenities. Only 50 to 60 surfers would gain access to the wave pool at any given time and would require paying an hourly fee or can sign-up for various packages to access the wave pool.
DSRT Surf after prior approval by the city’s planning commission is now headed to the city council for further approval. The project is expected to start the mid-next year, with a potential launch in 2022.
